Like pretty much all of Verbinski’s movies, A Cure For Wellness doesn’t know when to say when. It’s not the most elegant piece of writing, pockmarked as it is with lapses in logic, lengthy detours, and plot holes. (Why doesn’t Lockhart check in with his colleagues back in New York sooner? Simple answer: Because the story wouldn’t work if he did.) And after one too many real-or-fake reversals, the final reveals may inspire more shrugs than gasps, whether you’ve gotten ahead of the film’s secrets or not. But if Verbinski risks losing our investment in this tale of physical, mental, and/or spiritual decay, his talent for fantastical spectacle never grows old—especially as the film begins crosscutting between its most ghoulish and most opulent attractions, culminating in a climax that suggests what a Hammer horror movie might look like on an eight-digit budget. Simply put, nothing stranger is likely to make it to multiplexes any time soon. Savor the oddness.

WEST SENECA, NY—Expressing a mixture of alarm and heartache over the boy’s recently discovered disorder, the parents of diehard 8-year-old Buffalo Bills fan Cody Brenner told reporters Tuesday that their son had begun showing early signs of masochism. “A year ago we identified the first stages of his condition, and it’s been absolutely devastating as a parent to see our little boy struggling with something like this,” said the boy’s mother Julia, noting with sadness that the little boy’s self-flagellation includes watching the entirety of every Bills preseason game, regularly checking their official team Twitter page, and, in perhaps the most tragic and definitive confirmation of his disorder, recently purchasing a Tyrod Taylor poster to proudly display in his bedroom. “I thought something might be wrong when Cody made himself so angry by obsessively rewatching clips of the Bills blowing late-game leads last year, but it was his insistence that they’re going to be good this season in the face of all objective reasoning that confirmed his masochism for me. I want to help him, but we’ve been told there’s very little we can do. I just hope he can stay strong, because he will most likely be dealing with this for the rest of his life.” The boy’s grief-stricken mother added that it was hard not to blame the boy’s condition on his father, a sadist who likely inflicted his longtime Bills fandom on his son.

Having already served on the boards of such companies as Xerox , Starwood , FedEx , and Staples , Mitchell assumed his new role at a particularly tumultuous time in the company's history, needing to face such issues as Comcast 's hostile takeover attempts and a possible split with Pixar . [21] Mitchell played an important role in the selection of Robert A. Iger as Eisner's successor as CEO in 2005. [21] On June 28, 2006, Disney announced that its board had elected one of its members, John Pepper, Jr. , former CEO of Procter & Gamble , to replace Mitchell as chairman effective January 1, 2007.
