Anabolic steroids can cause the development of acne. However, the extent to which it is experienced can be due to a number of varying factors, with the particular steroids and exact dosages used being primary. The skin´s sebaceous glands have a particularly high affinity to Dihydrotestosterone, which is an androgen the body naturally produces from testosterone via the enzyme 5-alpha Reductase. Increased sebaceous gland activity promotes oily skin which can combine with bacteria and dead skin (normal wear and tear) eventually causing pores to become clogged more quickly than the body can cleanse them. This of course, is preventable by using only particular steroids, cleansing the skin regularly, and perhaps using a topical anti-androgen.

Anabolic steroids are synthetic hormonal substances that behave like testosterone. They help build skeletal muscles (anabolic effect) and develop male characteristics (the androgenic effect). In fact, the exact name for these is anabolic-androgenic steroids. Doctors prescribe these for people with testosterone deficiency or with low red blood cell count. They are also used to treat adolescents experiencing delayed puberty or patients with breast cancer, aside from treating tissue wasting among people AIDS. 1 They must also not be confused with corticosteroids, a cortisone-like steroidal medication that controls inflammation and is used to treat a range of health problems.

Some side effects that may occur when using FLONASE ® , a nasal steroid, include burning, dryness, crusting, or other irritation inside the nose. 3 Other possible side effects of FLONASE ® include occasional nose bleeds, nasal whistling, and headaches. 4 If you experience symptoms while using  FLONASE ®   that resemble an allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of the face or tongue, wheezing, or feeling faint, stop using FLONASE ® and see a doctor. 4   If you have questions or concerns about symptoms or trouble using the medication it is best to call your doctor.

While all of this seems to paint Estrogen and its prostate-related side effects in a very grave light, there is some saving grace to Estrogen. There is evidence that in addition to the negative estrogenic side effects as it relates to the prostate, it also seems to exhibit some beneficial protective effects as well [18] . On the positive side, the stimulation of Estrogen receptor-beta can assist in the protection of the prostate from inflammation, hyperplasia, and some carcinogenesis. It is the Estrogen receptor-alpha that is responsible for negative effects mentioned earlier. It is safe to conclude, however, that a very high level of Estrogen seems more harmful for the prostate than beneficial as elevated levels of PSA have been recorded during anabolic steroid administration (both mild and heavily estrogenic anabolic steroids were used) [19] .
